Honey Bee Hive Tours at The Bee Farm
$65. | 1.5 Hours | Saturdays
Coming in Spring 2025!
Ages 14 - Adult: $65.
Duration: 1.5 Hours
About
We'll gather at the bee farm, and start with a fun and brief introduction about honey bees, beehives, and honey.
Then, we’ll suit up and head to the beehives to see the bees in action! I'll do my best to point out the queen in a hive (she likes to hide!), drone and worker bees, see a bee born (if we are lucky!), brood frames, honey frames, eggs, and larvae, and you’ll be able to hold a frame of brood or raw honeycomb!
After we’re finished at the hives we will sample some our bee farm’s raw honey (dependent on availability and season).
What you’ll learn
Fascinating facts about bees.
Why pollinators matter to our food supply.
Bee hive basics: all about the bees that live in the hives, bee life cycle, how they communicate, etc.
What you'll see in the hive: honey bees (of course), eggs, larvae, pollen, nectar, capped honey, and the queen (if we’re lucky and she decides to make an appearance).
What you’ll need
Closed toed shoes are required, and we highly recommend shoes that cover the ankle, like hiking boots (if you have them), or socks that cover the ankle (if you don’t have boots).
Wear long pants: khakis, cargos, or blue jeans. Avoid yoga pants and leggings (basically avoid lightweight material).
Avoid black clothing! Light-colored clothing is best.
Wear a hairband or hat to keep hair out of face while in the bee suit.
Avoid wearing perfume, cologne, essential oils, scented lotions, or coming to the yard with freshly washed hair.

Things to know
Ensure you arrive a few minutes early in order to sign liability waivers and get signed in. Particularly for afternoon tours, it is important that we start on time so that we finish the tour before sunset.
Tours are weather dependent, so if the forecast calls for rain or temperatures below 65 degrees, we will need to cancel or reschedule. Keep an eye out for an email 24-48 hours before the tour in case we need to cancel or reschedule.
We love our dog friends, but please do not bring them to the bee yard.
FAQs
What are the minimum age requirements to attend?
We are happy to host bee lovers of all ages; however, we will begin holding tours in Spring 2025 with people ages 14 and up. We hope to have kid friendly tours later in the season. All minors must be accompanied by an adult, no exceptions.
What if I'm allergic to bees?
This is not the tour for you. Stings are always a risk during this kind of activity and you participate at your own risk. While our bees are generally gentle, stings can still happen.
What about safety?
Safety is very important!
We will talk about proper protective gear, how to safely interact with the bees, and how to move and stand around the bee hives.
We carry a first aid kit for minor cuts or abrasions, however, we cannot administer any medications due to liability concerns. We DO NOT carry EpiPens, Benedryl, or any other medication. In the case of a serious reaction, we will call 911 for emergency services.
Any participants exhibiting reckless or harmful behavior to themselves, the bees, the beekeeper, or to any other participants on the tour, will immediately be asked to leave.
